✨ THE SKIN’S DEEP CLEANSING SECRET✨
BHAs (Beta Hydroxy Acids), like salicylic acid, are oil-soluble and can penetrate deep into your pores. Here’s why they are a must for your skincare regimen:
- Deep Exfoliation: BHAs exfoliate within your pores, preventing and treating blackheads, whiteheads, and acne.
- Clears Skin: They’re ideal for oily and acne-prone skin, as they help regulate sebum production and minimize breakouts.
- Smooths Skin Texture: BHAs reduce roughness and promote a smoother, more even complexion.
- Anti-Inflammatory: They have anti-inflammatory properties, making them suitable for sensitive and irritated skin.
DIFFERENT FORMS OF BHAS:
- Salicylic Acid: The most common form, excellent for acne-prone skin and blemish control.
- Beta Hydroxybutanoic acid, Tropic acid, and Trethocanic acid: Less common and milder forms than salicylic acid, making them great for extra sensitive skin types.
INCORPORATING BHAS INTO YOUR ROUTINE:
Best Used in the PM ☾
- BHAs can be found within cleaners or other products but if you have a stand-alone treatment or serum, and apply your chosen BHA product after cleansing and toning but before moisturizers or other serums.
- Introduce slowly, starting with just 1-2x/ week with an option to work your way up to nightly as tolerated if your skin needs the extra exfoliation.
- Always be diligent with SPF while using BHAs!
Avoid combining BHAs with:
- AHAs (Alpha Hydroxy Acids): Unless they are formulated together in a product, it is advised to refrain from mixing these two together on your own to avoid over-exfoliation and/or skin irritation. If you want to use both, alternate them on different days.
- Retinoids: Combining BHAs with retinoids can cause excessive dryness and irritation.
- Vitamin C: High concentrations of vitamin C and BHAs together can be irritating to some skin types. Consider applying them at different times of the day.
